 Jasey
“Jasey” is approximately 3 years old but has had the adventures of an old soul! No one really knows Jasey’s full history, but we know enough to say she’s an exceptional girl and is waiting for the perfect home. She was not a racer. She managed to escape from her adoptive home and was gone 11 days. When found, she was thin and frightened and had numerous cuts and scrapes. Her feet are still tender, but she is recovering very well. She is somewhat timid but when she comes out of her shell, she’s a real hoot! Gets along great with other dogs. Playful and affectionate and extremely smart. Does well in a home with a laid back atmosphere, so please only consider Jasey if you can provide her a calm, loving environment as her last home was a bit on the frenetic side! |
 Samson
ADOPTED “Samson” is a 7 ½ year old handsome boy that was in a home in Las Cruces where the family was gone most of the time. He was an only dog and a lonely dog. In an apparent attempt to escape his isolation he attempted to jump a gate and he got hung. Thankfully the family teenagers found him before he succumbed. The family realized they did not have the time for this dog and they surrendered him to GCNM. Samson is not a retired racer. He was bred in Silver City, NM, as a hunting/coursing dog. He must’ve been a miserable failure as he demonstrates no prey drive – only a distinct desire to be with people. Please consider this handsome, gentle boy for your companion, but only if you have the time to give him plenty of affection and make him part of the family. |
 Foster
ADOPTED “Foster” was abandoned near Carlsbad, NM. We have no history on him, but he is tattooed, which means he was a racer at some point in his life or was at least bred to be one. Unfortunately, he ended up in the hands of someone who did not treat him like a family member, but rather like livestock. He appears to have been kept outside as his coat is thick and discolored, but in no time he will have a slick, gorgeous coat. He’s friendly and gets along well with other dogs. He crates well and is a fast learner. Foster is four years old, according to his ear tattoos. This boy will make an exceptional addition to any home. Not sure if he is cat safe, though. |
 Trixie
ADOPTED “Trixie” is a puppy that was found near Carlsbad, NM. Her age is unknown, but she appears to be about 6 months old. She’s very submissive and currently learning how to trust people, but will likely do fine once she learns she’s not going to be abused. She is very smart and has already learned to use the dog door. She is most comfortable in the company of other dogs, so she would probably do best in a home with dogs, preferably greyhounds! |
 Tawnee
ADOPTED “Tawnee” is a five-year-old female who was found near Carlsbad, NM. She looks exactly like the puppy pictured above (Trixie) and she appears to have had puppies in the past several months, so it is assumed she is Trixie’s mom. Like most dogs that are abandoned and have been kept in poor conditions (she was probably used as a hunter), she is timid and will need to learn to trust humans. Very sweet disposition and does exceptionally well with other dogs. Not sure about cats though! She walks well on a leash and is a fast learner. |
 David
“David” is a 1-year-old male who starts out timid but warms up to those he trusts and becomes a real love! He’s a real Velcro dog and loves to be anywhere ADOPTED his favorite person happens to be. He had some problems with housebreaking in the beginning but he’s getting the message now and uses the dog door with no hesitation. He gets along great with other dogs, including a small Italian greyhound. He was in a home with cats before, but lack of human supervision in that environment gave him opportunities to chase the kitties, so he may try that again. If he goes into a forever home with cats, it’s likely he’ll do fine, but must be supervised closely, like any greyhound, to be sure he gets the message it is unacceptable to chase. This is a real gem of a dog, but patience and understanding of his hesitation around strangers initially, will go a long way in assisting his adaptation to his new home. |
 Buddy
“Buddy” was found wandering the streets in Los Lunas, NM. Taken in by the Valencia County Animal Shelter, Buddy was never claimed so he was turned over to GCNM for placement. Tracing Buddy by his ear tattoos turned up the owner’s name, but when contacted she said he went missing some time back, but rather than look for him, she was just hoping he’d find a good home. So, our quest is to now find Buddy a GREYT home!
Buddy gets along very well with other dogs, but probably won’t be safe with cats. He loves every person he meets and is a real tail wagger! He grins when he gets especially excited. He doesn’t complain when crated. He’s basically a mellow boy who loves to be around people – the typical greyhound!
He is either 8 or 9 years old. His ear tattoo indicates he is 9, but the data reported by the owner when he was registered with the NGA states he was whelped on April 14, 2002.
Buddy will make a wonderful addition to any home without cats or birds. He does fine with Italian Greyhounds! Please consider giving this gentle giant a forever home where he will be part of the family rather than just relegated to a pen outdoors, which is where he has spent most of his life, according to the previous owner.
Buddy has excellent manners on a leash and will make someone an outstanding walking companion. He would also make an exceptional therapy dog.
